Beryl v. Heliodor

Beryl v. Heliodor

Volodarsk, Volynskii, Zhytomyr Oblast, Ukraine

7.4 x 6.5 x 5.2 cm

The Heliodors from this locality are famous for their color which ranges from yellow to green.  In natural light most of them tend to be gem yellow which is what the specification of Heliodor represents.  However, a few crystals appear apple green in natural light and are highly prized.

This one is naturally green and has exquisite naturally etched surfaces for which Volodarsk beryls are known.  But the best attribute of this gem crystal is simply that, it is gem.  While there are a couple of feathers on the interior, the crystal weighs in at 372 grams or 1800+ carats.  This is a distinctive addition to any collection.

It is a "floater" meaning there are no contact points and additionally, the specimen has no damage.
